Chris Long’s time with the Eagles could be over

On Thursday morning, the Eagles wheeled defensive end Vinny Curry back to Philadelphia on a 1-year deal. This could indicate that Chris Long’s time with Philadelphia could be over:

Even with the unlikeliness of the Eagles pulling the trigger to trade the 33-year-old, he still may decide to retire — “My feeling is Eagles don’t sign Vinny Curry unless they know Long is unlikely to return, whether he told them or they moved on. Long has said he would retire rather than return in a marginalized role. Signing of Malik Jackson would likely cut into 3d down rushes,” Eagles reporter Jeff McLane of philly.com stated via Twitter.

Long is an important piece to the Eagles defensive line. Last season, the veteran registered 6.5 sacks and 23 combined tackles to his stats (which was more than Brandon Graham). Curry wouldn’t be an upgrade from Long, so hopefully the Eagles can prolong their tenure with him.
