According to Mike Garafolo, the defending Super Bowl champions are to sign former Packers’ quarterback Joe Callahan. This move does make sense – given Carson Wentz’s uncertainty of being 100% at the start of this season.
This very much could signal a soon Nick Foles transaction by the Eagles; it’s very unlikely they have Wentz, Foles, Sudfeld, and Callahan on the same roster – which would be pretty cool – but a lot of money. If the Eagles were to release Foles, it will most likely be after training camp.
Last season with Aaron Rodgers injured, Callahan did NOT contribute to the team’s stats, most likely because he was an undrafted rookie free-agent. Though in college, playing for the Wesley College Wolverines, he had a career 29 touchdowns, and 3,599 yards. Callahan will add decent depth to the Eagles’ quarterback position.
Eagles expected to sign QB Joe Callahan, source says. The Absecon (NJ) native was waived by the Packers on Monday. Eagles also explored signing JT Barrett before he signed with the Saints. With Carson Wentz iffy for the preseason, Callahan could get plenty of reps.
