Philadelphia Eagles sign linebacker Corey Nelson

Looks like Super Bowl 52 champions intend to sign former Broncos linebacker Corey Nelson. Nelson was an unheard name this free-agency, especially after his injury this past season. The signing will be official on Wednesday after 4:00pm EST.

Corey Nelson was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 7th round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Though being drafted in the 7th round of the draft doesn’t look to attractive to many fans, in the 2016 season, following his first Super Bowl win, he managed to get 68 combined tackles.

Corey Nelson is expected to provide much needed depth for the linebacker position of the Eagles. It’s nice to add Nelson, age 25, to the Eagles given the risk of Eagles’ current linebacker Jordan Hicks re-injuring himself, and the uncertainty of the Eagles retaining Nigel Bradham.

This likely means that the Eagles don’t have many intentions to sign another linebacker in the NFL Draft this year. They will most likely look forward to drafting a tight end to replace Trey Burton after his contract he agreed to with the Chicago Bears. Philadelphia Eagles defense is already starting to take better shape this free-agency, and the offseason is nowhere close to ending.
