Thank you Howie Roseman for trading for, signing, and drafting such talented players that made the 2017 season so awesome. Before we start our game observations, let’s talk about the helpful transactions executive of the year, and GM Howie Roseman made happen in the offseason that led the Eagles to being 13-3.
This years transactions that made the 2017 Season so amazing. On January 2nd, 2017, Eagles signed eight new players including WR Marcus Johnson, who had his first reception on Week 17. Starting on March 4th, the roster changed a lot. That day Eagles signed S Jaylen Watkins to a one-year contract. Five days later, Eagles released DE Connor Barwin, making cap room for WR Torrey Smith. On the same day, Eagles signed LB Najee Good, WR Alshon Jeffery, and G Chance Warmack. The following day, Eagles signed G/C Stefen Wisniewski. The same week the Eagles signed QB Nick Foles who started three games after MVP candidate QB Carson Wentz tore his ACL. On March 28th, Eagles agreed to a two-year contract with DE Chris Long who had three-strip sacks this season. The same day, Eagles signed CB Patrick Robinson who had four interceptions this season. On April fourth Eagles acquired DT Timmy Jernigan and a third-round pick from the Ravens. On NFL Draft Week, Eagles drafted, DE Derek Barnett, CB Sidney Jones, CB Rasul Douglas, WR Mack Hollins, RB Donnel Pumphrey, WR Shelton Gibson, LB Nathan Gerry, and DT Elijah Qualls. On May 11th, the Eagles signed ten new players, including RB Corey Clement. A week later, Eagles signed free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount to a one-year deal. On August 3rd, Eagles acquired CB Ronald Darby from the Bills in exchange for WR Jordan Matthews. On August 30th, Eagles agreed to a one-year contract with DE Steven Means who had his first sack on the last game of the regular-season. On September 26th, Eagles signed RB Kenjon Barner to a one-year contact. On Halloween day, Eagles acquired RB Jay Ajayi for a 2018 fourth-round pick. On the first day of November, Eagles promoted QB Nate Sudfeld from the practice squad, who then ended up playing three quarters on the last game of the season. On November 13th, Eagles signed LB Dannell Ellerbe who ended up replacing Joe Walker late in the season. And on December 12th, Eagles signed DE Bryan Braman who starts on special teams.
Now let’s observe the Eagles statistics during the regular-season games.
Eagles vs. Redskins | NFL Week 1 – Carson Wentz started off his season throwing for 307 yards and two touchdown passes as he led the Eagles to victory over the Washington Redskins, 30-17. LeGarrette Blount also contributed 46 rushing yards against the Redskins.
Eagles vs. Chiefs | NFL Week 2 – Carson had two more passing touchdowns and 333 yards against the Chiefs. Unfortunately, the Eagles were unable to defeat the Chiefs, ending in a one touchdown deficit. LeGarrette Blount had only one reception and no rushing yards.
Giants vs. Eagles | NFL Week 3 – Eagles did not let the Giants win their first game of the season. Beating them with an inferior victory of 24 to 27 with the help of a game winning 61-yard field goal by newly added kicker, Jake Elliot.
Eagles vs. Chargers | NFL Week 4 – Although Carson Wentz only had one touchdown and just 242 yards, they were able to beat the Los Angeles Chargers 26 to 24. LeGarrette Blount did had 16 carries for 136 yards, and somehow no touchdown.
Cardinals vs . Eagles | NFL Week 5 – Eagles surprisingly blew out the Arizona Cardinals 7 to 34, with the help of Carson Wentz having four touchdown passes and 304 yards. LeGarrette Blount got his taste of the Eagles victory with 74 rushing yards.
Eagles vs. Panthers | NFL Week 6 – Eagles were again able to defeat the 4-1 Panthers, with a close score of 28 to 23. Also with the help of QB Carson Wentz who managed to throw three touchdowns for 222 yards. LeGarrette Blount had his share, with 67 yards.
Redskins vs. Eagles | NFL Week 7 – Eagles advance to 6-1 after defeating the Redskins for the second time this season. The score ended the game with a ten point lead. Carson Wentz win, with four passing touchdowns and 268 yards. LeGarrette Blount ended the game contributing only 29 yards.
49ers vs. Eagles | NFL Week 8 – Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles dominate the San Francisco 49ers, 10 to 33. Carson Wentz had two touchdowns as long as an interception. LeGarrette Blount also had his second touchdown as an Eagle, and 48 yards.
Broncos vs. Eagles | NFL Week 9 – No surprise here, the Philadelphia Eagles ‘kill’ the Denver Broncos, 51 – 23. Carson Wentz hit his career high of 118 passer rating in a single game. Corey Clement also helped the domination, with three touchdowns, and 51 yards. It was also RB Jay Ajayi’s first game as a Philly Eagle.
Eagles vs. Cowboys | NFL Week 11 – Philadelphia Eagles heavily defeat the Dallas Cowboys with the help of Carson Wentz’ two passing touchdowns and only 168 yards. Touchdown holder Corey Clement helped dominate, with a touchdown, and 50 yards.
Bears vs. Eagles | NFL Week 12 – Carson Wentz helps the Eagles hold the Bears to only a single field goal the whole game. Carson Wentz contributes three touchdowns and 227 yards. Also contributor, LeGarrette Blount captured 97 rushing yards.
Eagles vs. Seahawks | NFL Week 13 – Philadelphia Eagles fans get reminded on how it feels to lose. Carson Wentz put up a fight, holding over 300 yards and a touchdowns as well as an interception. Jay Ajayi manages 35 yards.
Eagles vs. Rams | NFL Week 14 – Philadelphia Eagles defeat the stout 9-4 Rams with the help of Carson Wentz and Nick Foles (relieving Carson Wentz after a ACL tear season ending injury).
Eagles vs. Giants | NFL Week 15 – QB Nick Foles shocks the world by defeating the Giants, and throwing four touchdowns and not a single interception, all to four different receivers. Jay Ajayi also get’s in on the action by locking 49 yards.
Raiders vs. Eagles | NFL Week 16 – Nick Foles manages to beat the Oakland Raiders and clinching the NFC East division. Foles only put up a touchdown and an interception. Jay Ajayi helped the out Nick Foles by running for a total of 52 yards.
Cowboys vs. Eagles | NFL Week 17 – Nick Foles fails to dominate in the 1st quarter before being replaced by backup QB Nate Sudfeld who didn’t turnover the ball. Eagles primarily rested their starters to prevent further injuries before the playoffs.
Falcons vs. Eagles | NFL Divisional Round of Playoffs – After being called ‘one-and-done’, Eagles shock the world by defeating the Atlantic Falcons. Nick Foles greatly improved by completing 77% of his throw. Eagles also leaned on Jay Ajayi more by rushing him for 54 yards.
Vikings vs. Eagles | NFL Conference Round of Playoffs – Once again, after being called ‘underdogs’ the Philadelphia Eagles unexpectedly blowout the stout Minnesota Vikings to advance to Superbowl LII, by holding them down to just a touchdown. Nick Foles threw for three touchdowns and a whopping 352 yards. Eagles also relied more on their running backs Jay Ajayi, LeGarrette Blount, and Corey Clement.
Eagles vs. Patriots | NFL Superbowl LII – Nick Foles shocks the world once again by shutting up all the New England Patriots fans and Philadelphia Eagles doubters and haters. Nick Foles threw for 373 and 3 passing touchdowns, including a receiving touchdown thrown by Trey Burton. LeGarrette Blount helped the team out by running for 90 yards and a touchdown. Nick Foles also won Super Bowl MVP.
