Trey Burton wasn’t acquired by the Bears to only catch touchdowns, but throw them too.
Tight end Trey Burton signed with the Chicago Bears during free agency following his Super Bowl run with the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a big loss for the Birds, but a big acquisition for the Bears.
During the instillation of a trick play for the Bears, Trey Burton was told he was going to be the one throwing it. Fortunately for Eagles fans’ sake, Burton opted out:
Honestly when they put it up on the board [in practice], I got crazy anxiety. I was kind of freaking out a little bit, just because a ton of unbelievable memories come back to mind from the Super Bowl. I remember not really saying much and going out in practice and trying to do it, and I just couldn’t. Physically there was some type of block that wasn’t letting me do it.”
The Bears ended up having running back Tarik Cohen throw it. Nevertheless, Burton was still involved in the trick play:
